[2008-02-29]  Effective immediately:

Research fee for Dan Bon inquiries by non-members

  • $99 per name submitted by non-members for research, regardless of findings.
  • Manual research of the orignal Kwan Jok Bu records may be required for older inquiries.
  • The original Kwan Jok Bu as handwritten by Founder Hwag Kee may need to be inspected to respond to some inquiries.
  • In some cases translation from Korean to English or another language may be required.
  • Inquiries about older practitioners may require the precious time of the Kwan Jang Nim.
  • Official findings confirmed by the Kwan Jang Nim delivered to the inquirer upon completion of research.

Rationale:

The Kwan Jok Bu contains the records of all legitimate Moo Duk Kwan Dan Bons that have ever been issued.

And yes, it can be researched to determine the authenticity, legitimacy and affiliation of, - or lack of all those things - about anyone claiming Dan rank certification in the Moo Duk Kwan system for them.

And yes, even non affiliated individuals who have never contributed toward the support or preservation of Founder Hwang Kee's martial art system or his intellectual property can request this organization to mobilize its resources to provide research services.

Members of the U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation have free access to this resource as a function of their membership dues.

Unfortunately, due to the number of frauds, imitators, counterfeiters and the like who claim false affiliation with the Moo Duk Kwan, our organization could expend an inordinate amount of time, energy and member resources researching non-member inquiries only to discover the names submitted belong to false claimants and we have wasted the researcher's time and energy only to discover more frauds - and some legitimate Moo Duk Kwan Dans. Such expenditure of organization resources is not a high priority toward our mission purposes.

It is reasonable and prudent for the dues paying members who have funded the preservation and continued maintenance of the Moo Duk Kwan's official Kwan Jok Bu records for much of its long history to recover the cost of researching inquiries from unknown inquirers.

For non-members seriously interested in conclusively tracing their martial art roots and confirming - or denying - the authenticity and legitimacy of each of the individuals submitted for research, when the value of that knowledge exceeds the amount of the research fee for the inquirer, then our organization will be glad to provide the research services. When the value of that knowledge does not exceed the amount of the research fee for the inquiriere, then their inquiry is probably just a matter of idle curiosity by someone who has not been supporting our organization nor the preservation of our art, so we need not waste resources to assuage the curiosity of non-members.

If we can be of service please contact Headquarters.
